The anterior communicating artery has significant branches.

چکیده
The anterior communicating artery was studied with the operating microscope in 10 autopsy cases. This vessel was present in all cases with reduplication in three. Arterial diameter ranged from 0.8 to 2.3 mm, with lengths of 5 to 10 mm. Branches of the anterior communicating artery were found in every case (range 3-13, average 5.4). Most branches were small (50-250 mu), but at least one large branch (250-1000 mu) was invariably present. Small ventral branches ramified on the optic chiasm. Small and large dorsal branches distributed themselves to lamina terminalis, hypothalamus, parolfactory areas, columns of fornix, and corpus callosum. Injury to these vessels caused by aneurysmal rupture or surgical manipulation may lead to serious clinical deficits.

Background: This investigation was conducted in order to study angiographic findings in patients with cerebral aneurysm. Materials and Methods: The study conducted on 136 cases of ruptured cerebral aneurysms between 1995-2000 confirmed by means of 4-vessel cerebral angiography to get an insight to racial, geographic and environmental factors predisposing to the occurrence of subarachnoid hemorr...
متن کاملSurgical and angiographic anatomy of the posterior communicating and anterior choroidal arteries
The posterior communicating (PComA) and anterior choroidal arteries (AChA) are the two major branches of the supraclinoid internal carotid artery. Thorough knowledge of the anatomy and awareness of the variations and anomalies of these arteries are of clinical and scientific importance in dealing with lesions involving these arteries and their branches. This article briefly reviews surgical and...
متن کاملA morphological study of the posterior communicating artery.
This study aims to identify and yield a better understanding of the origin of the posterior communicating artery, its perforating branches and the relations in the vicinity of that artery. In 30 brains filled with a mixture of latex through the internal carotid and basilar arteries the posterior communicating artery originated from the posterior aspect of the C4 part of the internal carotid art...
متن کاملRuptured proximal anterior cerebral artery (A1) aneurysm located at an anomalous branching of the fronto-orbital artery--a case report.
Cerebral aneurysms are occasionally associated with anomalies of cerebral arteries, that should be recognized pre- and intra-operatively. Most of the previous reports on the anomalies of the anterior cerebral artery have been concerned with hypoplasia, fenestration, and infra-optic course of the A1, variant A1 perforators or Heubner's artery, multi-channeled anterior communicating artery, and a...
متن کاملAbsent anterior communicating artery and varied distribution of anterior cerebral artery.
During the cerebral dissection of a 67-year-old male cadaver, a unique combination of variations at the circle of Willis and anterior cerebral artery (ACA) distribution were encountered. The A1 segment of both ACA were fused without an anterior communicating artery (ACoA), forming an X shape and giving rise to a common pericallosal artery (CPA), an incomplete distal ACA, and an incomplete dista...
